Himalayan Rugs was founded by Mrs. Ang Lami Sherpa with a unique mission to produce fine quality hand knotted Nepalese rugs using age old traditional technique and to create an opportunity for rug enthusiasts to purchase outstanding artworks from anywhere in the world. After a successful launch of handicraft trading and rug manufacturing company for more than 15 years, she is inspired to establish a separate company, Himalayan Rugs, to focus only on the development and promotion of nature friendly handmade Nepalese rugs.

As you know, Nepal is a developing country with more than 75% population uneducated. Rug weaving industry is the only field where uneducated men and women can earn a living with only a few month’s of training. Therefore, Himalayan Rugs aims to create job opportunities to men and women from especially from unprivileged society of Nepal.

Himalayan Rugs produces fine export quality hand knotted rugs in different knots quality under strict inspection and supervision of Nepal RugMark Foundation. It inspects and certifies the rug industry of child labor free. Himalayan Rugs is a participant of “New Standard” pilot project of International RugMark Foundation. We practice making every product environmentally friendly. Himalayan Rugs believes into “Fair Share”. Our weavers and other technical staffs are receiving fair wages. They are provided excellent working environment with sufficient daylight and air. Even with a limited source, Himalayan Rugs have been providing a day care centre for the small children of the weaver’s families. The local people are also enjoying selling their fresh vegetable, dairy products, poultry products to our weavers. Some of them are working in the factory also.
