Budhanilakantha Ashram was founded in 1989 by Swami Chandreshji Maharaj. He is called “Swami Ji” by many. (Pronounced Swami Gee)
Swami Ji spent twenty-two years meditating in the Sivapuri mountains in Nepal. During that time, he practiced different forms of Yoga and meditation seeking inner joy in spiritual enlightenment. Many people from both Nepal and other countries would visit him in the mountains to discuss spiritual matters. Swami Ji was also active in the local community by providing education and personal assistance. During that time, he wrote several books, and composed devotional songs. In addition, he is very active as a painter. His paintings are now on display in the art gallery at the Ashram.
Swami Chandresh established Budhanilakantha Ashram because he felt that there was a need in the community for a place where a variety of needs could be met. The Ashram was created to provide low-cost education for children, spiritual guidance for people of all ages, and as well as activites related to music, art, and literature.
